Description

There are three main types of industrial use for natural fluoride, generally referred to as “fluorspar”, which correspond to different degrees of purity in these industries.

Metallurgical grade fluorite (60-85% CaF 2) is traditionally used to lower the melting point of steel raw materials and to provide fluidity at the lowest level from three degrees. It is also used in production and later in aluminum production to help eliminate pollution.

Ceramic grade fluorite (85-95% CaF 2) is used in the production of dull glass.
It is used in enamel and cooking pots. The highest grade “acid-grade fluoride” (97% or higher purity), about 95%. In the US fluoride consumption is used to make hydrogen fluoride and the fluoride is converted to hydrofluoric acid by the reaction of sulfuric acid with fluoride.
